HISTORIA DEl SHORINJI-RYU KARATE- DO RENSHINKAN
El SHORINJIRYU KARATE - DO RENSHINKAN fue fundado en el 1955 por el Isamu Tamotsu (1er Soke y Kaiso) en la ciudad de Kagoshima, Japón. Éste nació el 29 de noviembre de 1919 en la ciudad de Naze en Kagoshima, Japón y falleció el 31 de mayo de 2000. Kaiso Isamu Tamotsu en su juventud comenzó a practicar el Judo con el profesor Tadaeo Nakahara hasta alcanzar el grado de 3er Dan.
En su adolescencia, Kaiso Isamu Tamotsu participo en diferentes competencias lo que hizo que observara que una persona puede defenderse bien con el Judo contra uno e incluso dos adversarios, pero si hay más opositores, se encuentra en desventaja con estos. Llego a esta conclusión, debido a su práctica simultánea del Judo y el Shorinji Nampa (southern) Kempo, el cual practicó desde los 13 años bajo la dirección de Roshi Chi.
Kaiso Tamotsu por circunstancias, desde muy joven vivía en diversos lugares principalmente debido a tener dos hijos que alimentar, la perdida de su padre, el cual falleció durante una gran tormenta y su madre, tejedora de profesión. Este continuo movimiento favoreció grandemente al conocimiento de otras Artes Marciales.
Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial estuvo dos años destacado con el ejército Japonés en Manshuria lo que le permitió contactar con las Artes Marciales Chinas, pero especialmente atraído por el Kempo Chino. Así conoció al profesor O Shi Hei, con el cual practicó durante su estancia en esta provincia china.
Después de la guerra, Kaiso Isamu Tamotsu regresó a Kagoshima en donde practicó Hakko-ryu-jujutsu, Houen-ryu-taijutsu, Kensou-ryu-jujutsu, Daito-Ryu, Bojutsu, Jojutsu y Kenjutsu.
Kaiso Isamu Tamotsu deseaba conocer la mayor posible cantidad de técnicas y de manera muy especial las tradicionales. Por tal razón viajó a la isla de Okinawa para poder practicar con (Zenryo Shimabukuro), que era un estudiante del conocido Maestro de Karate, Kyan Chotoku. Kaiso Isamu Tamotsu aprendió las técnicas y las Katas de los estilos de Zenryo Shimabukuro y de Joen Nakasato. Joen Nakasato era el único estudiante vivo de Kyan Chotoku, quien continuó su entrenamiento diariamente a pesar de sus 92 años de edad en su dojo de Okinawa, hasta su fallecimiento en 2005.
Con la integración de todas las Artes Marciales que conoció estableció su propio punto de vista. En los comienzos de los años 50 tuvo la idea de desarrollar un nuevo estilo de Karate, que fuera más adecuado a las necesidades reales de las personas. Así surge el Shorinjiryu Karate-Do Renshinkan
Cuando Kaiso Isamu Tamotsu comenzó a enseñar el nuevo estilo en Kagoshima, Japón solo tenia 5 estudiantes. Su hijo Soke Iwao Tamotsu (actual Soke) recuerda con frecuencia que siempre después de las prácticas la familia tenia que trabajar en restaurantes para poder vivir. Su reputación como instructor de karate se extendió rápidamente por todo Japón y de esa manera consiguió muchos nuevos alumnos incluso de otros estilos de karate. Kaiso Isamu Tamotsu fue el primer instructor de Karate Do que fue invitado por el Ministerio de Educación Chino a un viaje de entrenamiento y demostración a China.
El estilo Shorinjiryu Karate-Do Renshinkan, en su aplicación práctica presenta una proporción mayor de técnicas de golpeo con las piernas sobre las de puño o mano. Además se emplean proyecciones, y controles de inmovilización. Se practica combate libre con un equipo único de protección (BOGU) de alta calidad que consta de un casco, peto y guantes. Igualmente se estudian varias armas, tales como espada (Katana), lanza (Yawara), palo largo (Bo) y corto (Jo), etc.
El desarrollo de sus Katas es largo con movimientos explosivos en sus finales, largas pausas en sus movimientos para finalizar en un ataque contundente y regresar nuevamente a la atención de preparación para el siguiente paso.
Al contrario de otras escuelas de karate que llegan a las veintiséis katas, divididas estas en fundamentales, elementales y superiores, el Renshinkan Karate Do, solo tiene siete katas, SEISAN, ANANKU, WANSHU, CHINTO, GOJUSHIHO, BASSAI y KUSHANKU. El grado de dificultad de éstas va lógicamente en aumento pero todas se pueden definir como superiores. Además, el grado de perfeccionamiento de las mismas lo da la práctica continuada a lo largo de los años.
El Shorinjiryu Renshinkan Karate-Do fuera del Japón tiene mucho éxito. Hoy día existen organizaciones en los Estados Unidos, Canadá, Puerto Rico, Republica Dominicana, Panamá, Costa Rica, México, Brasil, China, Taiwán, Filipinas, India, Nueva Zelanda, Reino Unido, Suecia, Rusia, Alemania, Francia, España, y Finlandia, entre otras. Al momento de la muerte del Soke (Kaiso ) Isamu Tamotsu el 31 de mayo del 2000, solo en Japón existían más de mil escuelas y cerca de 500,000 estudiantes.
El principal instructor y heredero del estilo es el Soke Iwao Tamotsu 10mo Dan Hanshi, nacido el 6 de Noviembre del 1948. Comenzó a practicar karate a los 3 años. Iwao Tamotsu, Soke hoy es el responsable de la enseñaza en cada país. Éste visita todas las Organizaciones y escuelas (Dojos) los de manera regular durante el año para supervisar personalmente la enseñanza de este Arte Marcial. Hoy los practicantes del Renshinkan Karate Do, ascienden a cerca de 400,000 repartidos entre los países antes mencionados, que incluye el Japón.
Biography of Soke Iwao Tamotsu, 10th Dan Master
Soke Isamu Tamotsu, 10th Dan Master, founded the Japan Shorinji-ryu Karate-Do Federation in 1955 in Kagoshima. He passed away on May 30, 2000 at the age of 80. He had the honor of accepting the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette. Since the founding of the Federation membership has continued to grow, and now has approximately 1000 affiliates and 350,000 members all over the world.
Renshinkan Karate-do has implemented a code of respecting human life, which is shown by the practice of holding safe and practical competitions and insisting on always using protective gear. It has also clarified standards for refereeing as well as establishing the body of the genuine public Budo. Since the early stages of its history, Renshinkan Karate-Do has focused on character-building and has devoted all of its energy into the “formation of the human beings through Karate- do”. Under the philosophy of “Educate people looking ahead to the next 100 years”, Renshinkan’s principles of teaching have not only emphasized the mastery of Budo, but have also strived to form character, fulfill spirits, and cultivate morales. Renshinkan’s main focus is to physically and mentally nourish young students, as well as to create genuine Karate-Do.
Soke Iwao Tamotsu, 10th Dan Master, was born in Kagoshima in 1948 as the eldest son of the late Isamu Tamotsu, 10th Dan Master. He became Soke of Shorinji-ryu Karate-Do Renshinkan in May 2000.
After cumulative trainings and tutelage by his master and father, Iwao Tamotsu mastered the ultimate techniques of Kata and Kumite. His special enbu of Kushanku-no-Kata is the highest summit of Shorinji-ryu Seiryu (Shorinji-ryu Genuine Seven Methods). It is demonstrated at annual All Japan Championships, and is evaluated as a Kata that has been completed with flamboyance in intensity, strength and power. In Kumite, Iwao Tamotsu has mastered various techniques, such as: Ushiro-Mawashi-Geri (Back round Kick), Renzoku-Mawashi-Geri (Continuous Round Kicks), Sokuto-Ku-no-Ji-Geri (Sword Foot Kick with Dogleg Jump), Rasen-Shuto-Uchi (Spiral Hand Sword), and Gyappu-Sokuto-Geri (Backlash Sword Foot Kick). These techniques have been feared in the Karate World as ultimate techniques that cannot be defended against.
In 1967, Iwao Tamotsu won the 1st All Japan Shorinji-ryu Karate-do Championship, and then began missionary activities. In 1969, at the age of 19, he traveled to the Philippines to coach at the University of Baguio. He also coached in Taipei as the head of the delegation to Taiwan in 1971, as well as coaching in the Dominican Republic and other Central American countries in 1981. Thus he created the basis for the affiliation with Taiwan, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Panama, and other fine countries. In recent years, Soke Iwao Tamostsu has been promoting the internationalization of Karate-do by teaching this profoundly spiritual Japanese Budo in Europe, India, and North America. The number of international devotees has increased year by year. The Iwao Tamostu Foundation, International in India has been supporting the education of underprivileged children, as well as actively promoting international exchanges and welfare activities.
He say, “The Essence of Karate-Do lies in Kata”. Through a combination of coaching and teaching of Kata, which is performed with flamboyance and speed, Soke Iwao Tamotsu contributed to the nourishment of children’s minds, techniques and physique. One of Soke Iwao Tamotsu’s especially distinguished achievements has been spreading Karate Do to children across Japan and molding the abilities of these young “kenshi” (first fighters).
Soke Iwao Tamotsu is a Grand Master who stands at the forefront due to his outstanding leadership and the way he strives to further develop the Federation through modernization and internationalization, Soke Iwao Tamotsu, with his fortitude, wit, and extraordinary sensibility, aims at the creation of the genuine Karate-Do that can contribute peace to the world. He has earned adoration from inside as well as outside the Federation as Budo Master of the 21st Century who teaches children to hope and dream through the magnificent spirituality of Renshinkan Karate-Do.
